ARCH-STRAVAGANZA! FEBRUARY 9th!


This is going to be fantastic! 
 
The St. Louis Gateway Arch and the Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis (DSAGSL) are hosting a private family event at Jefferson Expansion Memorial on February 9, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is free and open to families of individuals with Down syndrome of all ages – siblings are welcome to attend, as well. Attendees get private use of the Arch facilities for the evening and multiple family activities will also be included.

BIKE CAMP RETURNING 2013 - DSAGSL





The Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis will again offer the Lydia Cox Memorial  Bike Camp week from June 3-7, 2013 @ South Technical High School.

GOAL: Learn to ride a 2-wheel bike!

REGISTRATION: March 1, 2013 @ www.dsagsl.org

COST: $150 

AGE: 8 years & older

KIDS ACTIVITY - LINES OF COLORED TAPE


ITEMS NEEDED:
  • Colored Tape
  • Cotton Balls or Pom Poms
  • Straw


Fun Kid Activity #1: Walk the Line

One foot in front of each other.
Following the line.
Balancing to stay on your color.
[Color Recognition, Gross Motor Skills, Midline Skills, Visual Tracking]

Fun Kid Activity #2: Blow Pom Poms along the Line

Blow the pom poms down the line with a straw.
[Or you could forgo the straw, but they make it really fun!]
Try your best keeping the pom pom on the line all the way to the end.
Use pom poms in corresponding colors to the tape.
[Oral Motor Skills, Color Recognition, Fine Motor Skills]

Opportunity for Aspiring Artists!

Celebrate 
National Disability Employment Awareness Month 
with Mercy Hospital St. Louis, one of St. Louis County’s largest employers of individuals with developmental disabilities.

Mercy Hospital is giving aspiring artists with developmental disabilities the opportunity to display and sell original artwork or crafts in the hospital lobby during the dates and times listed below:  
October 15 & 16, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
or
October 17 & 18, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Artists must meet the following criteria to be considered:
  • Have a developmental disability 
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Submit the attached application no later than September 17 to Kim Uhlmansiek
  • Provide a sample of products to be sold 
(Note that artists need to submit an application no later than September 17)
